Waterfront RVA: Your Key To Richmond's Urban Oasis

Living and loving the SUP life! 🏄🏽‍♀️🌊🏙 Yesterday, I went paddle boarding for my FIRST time on the James River. 🤩 The weather was perfect with all the clouds blocking the sun and the water wasn’t cold at all. ⛅️ Some parts were harder to paddle than expected because of the river current going against us but it made for a good workout. 😅🤷‍♀️

Waterfront RVA on Brown’s Island (the little green building) does board and kayak rentals for just $20/person/hour! Gina was super friendly helping us get gear and put our belongings away in a safe spot while we were on the water. Also shoutout to Ben for teaching us the basics of paddle boarding since it was my first time!

It was super cool to paddle under the Belle Isle walking bridge and see all the people stop to watch us. Thank goodness I didn't fall off and embarrass myself...LOL

Waterfront RVA is planning to stay open until the end of October as long as the weather is decent so you can still have a shot at paddle boarding or kayaking on the James! ☀️✔️ They also have SUP yoga classes if you want something more challenging! 🧘‍♀️ All you have to do is shoot them a message on Instagram to plan your visit! ☺️ They allow walk up rentals as well but it won't be guaranteed that they have enough gear available, so it's best to let them know in advance! You pay once you get there (you can't pay online because of possible inclement weather in which case you would have to reschedule) and parking can be found in the Belle Isle parking lot or anywhere on 5th St. Now, I think I might have to try out kayaking before the season ends! 🛶🚣‍♂️

Directions: First go to the green building on Brown's Island. This is where you pay for your rental, pick up the paddle, and put on the life jacket. This is also where you'll leave your belongings while on the water. Second, they will walk you over to the river entrance where all the paddle boards and kayaks are. The staff will assist as you enter the water and give basic instruction if it is your first time and then after that you are on your own! Use the reference pictures below if you get lost!
