Did you hear about the grand opening of RUBY SCOOPS over the weekend?! 🍨🎉 If not, now you have! Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets is the newest addition to Brooklyn Park and it’s got a lot of people talking. 🗣👂 The business was first started in 2014 when the chef/owner, Rabia Kamara, got tired of making original recipes for a pastry shop and not receiving proper credit. 🙅♀️ Ruby Scoops used to just be online retailing with local pop-ups based in Washington DC, but she decided to open her first shop right here in Richmond (aren’t we lucky)! 🥰 Not only is it #blackowned but also #womenowned AND #queerowned so there is a lot to celebrate! 🥳🏳️🌈 Chef Rabia, a VCU alumna, wanted to create a space where anyone, regardless of race, gender, and sexual orientation, could enjoy a sweet treat as themselves...and that she DID! 👏 The ice cream and sorbets are all handcrafted and scratch made which makes it all the more better, not to mention the many vegan options! 🌱
I got the lemon berry sorbet which had the perfect amount of sour and sweet. 🍋🍓🍨 My brother tried out a coke float which he enjoyed.🥤🍦 I’m excited to go back and try a milkshake because they looked super YUM! 😋
The shop itself was SO CUTE and I loved all the ice cream themed wall decor and art, definitely an inviting and colorful atmosphere!
I was slightly disappointed because I was hoping to get the Mylk n Oreos flavor (🤤), but they didn’t have it available when I went even though it was posted on their Instagram page (🥺). I suggest calling beforehand to see what particular flavors will be in stock since Instagram is not as reliable, although I’m sure the misunderstanding probably had to do with them still learning the ropes of their new business. I also suggest going early in the day because apparently they’ve been selling out before closing time! 🤯🏃🏽♀️ FYI, masks are required, it is take out only, no samples, and only one party is allowed in at a time (so there will most likely be a line to wait). I appreciate the measures taken against COVID-19. The owners plan to add a unique spin on regular ice cream flavors, with twists such as Peaches N’ Herb, Sweet Corn Basil, and Lemon Honey Chamomile...so you can guarantee it’s something you’ve never tasted before! They plan to be open all winter season long, open Fridays-Sundays. Go check out Ruby Scoops Ice Cream & Sweets over in North Side and let me know what you think! 💗🍦
