Poor Boys: Black-Owned Restaurant Bringing Classic NOLA Dishes To The Heart Of Richmond

Finally made it out to another spot on my bucket list...Poor Boys of Richmond! 🎭

This black-owned restaurant is bringing old school New Orleans to the heart of RVA with classics like jambalaya, po-boy sandwiches, and beignets. I went last week and tried The Big One burger with mac and cheese on top. It tasted just as good as it looks and paired well with the cajun fries! 🍔🍟 I would totally order it again!

My friends ordered the Jambalaya, Surf & Turf Po-Boy, and Backyard Crabcake Sandwiches. The servings are pretty large and we ended up being too full to try the beignets, so sharing meals may be a good idea if you want to try more things.

We started with the Fried Mac and Cheese Balls appetizer which was delicious! 🤤

Of all the food we got, I’d say the sides are def the way to go! We loved the cajun fries, chips (they taste like barbecue mixed with sour cream and onion 😍), cornbread, and mac and cheese! The side sampler would be perfect which gets you 3 sides for a reduced price. 🤑 Their signature Bayou sauce was sooo unique and spicy and it made the food so flavorful…highly recommend! 👍

Poor Boys also has an event space called The Voodoo Room (@thevoodooroomrva) where they can hold parties of up to 250 people, might be something to look into for your next private event. 😉 I know I definitely need to go back for an evening of live music, more sides, and cocktails…hbu? 🎶
