I cant believe I’ve passed by this place a million times and never knew it was there! 🤯🤦♀️ Grandstaff & Stein is a speakeasy tucked away on Main St. in Shockoe Bottom. When you first walk in, it is a bit skeptical because there’s just a small foyer with a bookshelf. Upon telling the hostess the password (which can be found on their social media) or telling a funny joke, you are granted entry to the speakeasy through a secret door.
The restaurant is low-lit and intimate with lots of dark wood, exposed brick, chandeliers, and barrel tables which gave nods to the Prohibition Era. 🛢 The vintage speakeasy interior just screams 1920’s and even the Great Gatsby-esque music fit the theme. 🎭🎷 They also have a small patio area if you prefer eating outdoors.
I got the vegetarian Pot Pie which was the best I’ve ever had (you can add meat to it if you want but I chose not to)! 🌱🥧 It comes with a rich flaky puff pastry lying on top of the creamy pie filling which is something I’ve never seen before.
My family ordered the crab dip and popcorn for appetizers which were both FLAWLESS! 🦀🍿 We were obsessed with the freshly made and well-seasoned pita chips. My family also ordered the Classic Ribeye, Filet Mignon, and Pumpkin Cheesecake which they loved. 🥩🍰
We went here to celebrate my birthday dinner but it would also make the perfect place for a date night or to get drinks with friends as the prices are fair. My brother says it is his new favorite restaurant and my family is already planning our next return. 😂 Everything about Grandstaff & Stein is high quality...it is such a cool concept, hidden gem, and a unique experience that everyone needs to try out! 🤩
